Planning can make a huge difference for students looking to transfer credits from one school to another. As a direct entry institution, course sequencing is key and can have a direct impact on a student's time to degree completion. Our planning guides have been created to provide guidance on Marquette's Core Curriculum requirements and recommended coursework for transferring into each academic college.![]() TRANSFER PLANNING GUIDE: MARQUETTE CORE CURRICULUMThe structure and content of the Marquette University Core Curriculum (MCC) consists of three course tiers: the foundations, discovery and culminating tiers. For transfer students, the number of credits required in the MCC will be based on the number of approved transfer credits earned by a student (excluding test credits). To learn more about the pedagogic theory behind the MCC, visit this page. MCC Transfer LevelA student’s placement in one of the MCC transfer levels is based on the number of transferable credits awarded. The transfer credit level is determined by review of the official transcript(s) received and credit awarded for up to 30 days after the start of classes in the first term of enrollment at Marquette. If courses are in progress at the time of student’s initial course registration, the student, in consultation with an academic adviser, should consider the impact courses in progress may have on degree requirements. Incoming freshman applicants are not eligible for the MCC Transfer Levels unless an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) was earned while in high school; although, college credit earned during high school will be evaluated for transfer credit. Culminating Tier: CORE 4929 Level 1: 12-23 approved credits
Level 2: 24-48 approved credits
Level 3: 49 or more approved credits

*Writing Intensive Requirement (WRIT) - Students must complete a course that is designated "WRIT." This requirement can be completed via one of their four Discovery Tier courses or through other degree requirements. *The Discovery Tier courses required of new freshmen who did not earn an Associate of Arts (AA) or Associate of Science (AS) degree while in high school and any transfer students with fewer than 24 transfer credits consists of courses completed within a single theme. For this reason, we do not recommend scheduling courses prior to enrolling at Marquette with the intention of fulfilling Discovery Tier requirements. Additional Discovery Tier notes:
